The Dar Si Said Museum is one of the cultural attractions of the imperial city of Marrakech. It is located near the Bahia Palace in the building of the Dar Si Said Palace, which was converted into a modern museum in 1932. This majestic and beautiful palace was built in the 19th century by Si Said bin Musa, brother of Ba Ahmed.
According to Muslim traditions, the palace building is surrounded by strong walls. Near it there is a wonderful garden with a beautiful arbour and a fountain.
On the top floor of the palace is a magnificent reception hall, which is a masterpiece of Moorish art. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Medina and the neighbourhood of Marrakech. All the palace halls are decorated with original mouldings and magnificent zellige tiles. In the reception hall there are exquisite wooden candlesticks and cedar benches covered in coloured fabrics.
The Dar Si Said Museum displays various archaeological finds, including fragments of Fez architecture. The museum collection is housed on three floors of the palace. The museum exhibition includes collections of weapons, doors, chests, carpets, ceramics, clothing and many other exhibits that testify to the skills of local craftsmen.
The basement floor contains exhibition halls that overlook the riad. Large-scale exhibits such as chests and wooden doors can be seen here. To the right of the entrance is a hall with everyday objects, and to the left is a hall with jewellery. At the far end of the palace garden is a hall displaying various kitchen utensils, a reception hall on the ground floor of the building and a hall displaying fine rustic carpets on the ground floor. In the corridor, traditional clothing of the Uzguita tribe is displayed.
The museum's collection is frequently updated with new and interesting exhibits. All information about the exhibits located in the Dar Si Said Museum is provided in Arabic and French.
