Tangier, like any other city in Morocco, has long been famous for its amazing souks. The largest and most popular market in this major port city is the Grand Socco. It is located in the central part of the medina, not far from the famous Sidi Bou Abib Mosque with its magnificent pointed minarets.

The Grand Bazaar is the most bustling and noisy place in Tangier, with every vendor trying to outshout his neighbour in trade, inviting you to come to his shop or café, shoving various copper utensils and other souvenirs under the tourist's nose. Throughout the market spread the noisy sounds of oriental drums, the smells of red pepper and roasted meat.

The main thing is not to get confused among all this, but to keep a close eye on your wallet and decide in advance on the choice of goods that you want to buy at the Grand Bazaar in Tangier. All insistent offers like "buy this lucky stone from the sacred mountain" should be rejected immediately, because there are several billion similar stones on the beach. The locals, unlike Egyptians, understand the words "don't" and "no" very well. If you have already decided on the choice of goods you can bargain, Moroccans are polite people, they always make concessions to their customers. Lack of local currency is not an obstacle, they will gladly accept both euros and dollars. It should also be noted that such a concept as "change" in the markets of Tangier simply does not exist.

At the Grand Socco market you can buy many interesting traditional souvenirs: gold jewellery, silverware, lamps made of coloured glass and copper, copper and clay utensils with national painting, woollen and silk blankets and carpets, as well as magnificent leather goods: traditional shoes embroidered with silver and gold threads, camel wool jackets, bags and belts.

In addition to the sumptuous selection of goods, the Gran Socco also features amazing performances by snake charmers, street dancers, magicians and fakirs.
