The waterfront in the Aker Brygge neighbourhood is Oslo's most popular recreational area, located within the city limits. In 1982, after the shipyards were closed down. Expensive restaurants and cafes, entertainment centres and shops, residential and office buildings made of glass, metal and brick buildings sprouted up along the waterfront in a matter of over the years. Today, the neighbourhood's shipbuilding past is only reminded by a couple of industrial buildings. Opposite the waterfront can be seen the ancient Akershus Fort.

Aker Bruges attracts not only tourists, but also locals come here. in good weather to stroll along the bay, sit at a table at one of the barge restaurant, listen to street concerts and simply admire the sunset, enjoying the idyll of the surrounding area.
