Arctic Cathedral is a Lutheran church of the parish of Tromsdalen, with a seating capacity of 720 parishioners, built and consecrated in 1965. It is a Norway's unique cultural heritage, shaped like an iceberg, floating in the polar night under the shimmering Northern Lights.
The cathedral's stained glass windows, whose main theme is "The Coming of Christ", are the largest in Europe. in Europe. The symbolic number "3" is used throughout the architecture - as in the altarpiece by the artist Victor Sparre - three rays of light emanating from the the hand of God and directed at Christ and the two apostles. The oak interior, the large chandeliers, and the pulpit blend effortlessly with the heavyweight simplicity of the structure.
In 2005, a 3-register organ was built in the French Romantic French Romantic style organ, consisting of 2,940 pipes. It replaced the old one and is used for worship services and organ music concerts.
During your visit to the cathedral, you can buy souvenirs, postage stamps, postcards and various publications dedicated to this Arctic temple. When there is church service, the entrance for tourists is closed.
