Lutheran cathedral located in the north-western part of the city of Bergen, was first mentioned in the early 12th century as St Olaf's Church. It was on this where the first stone church stood.

During the reign of King Håkon VI, a Franciscan Franciscan monastery. In 1537 the temple acquired the status of a cathedral. In the 17th century it was also renewed after two fires, at which time the church spire was replaced by a tower.

During the Second Anglo-Dutch War, a cannonball was lodged in the cathedral wall. In 1880, designed by the architect Christian Christie, the Rococo interior was remodelled and the cathedral regained its medieval appearance.

Bergen Cathedral periodically hosts amazing concerts of organ music.
