The Flomsbana, or Floms railway, is a masterpiece of Norwegian engineering, is one of the most impressive and popular attractions of the Aurlandsfjord. It descends 865 metres above sea level from Myrdal station to the picturesque Flom Valley.
Flomsbana was opened in 1940 for temporary steam locomotive traffic. В It has now taken on a new look - travelling in green carriages with the locomotive is accompanied by tourist information in several languages. Stopping at the picturesque Kjosfossen waterfall, which supplies Flomsbana with electricity, you'll be able to take great pictures. Winding tunnels, built into the mountain to even out the gradient and also to protect the road from avalanches and rockfalls.
The Flom railway crosses the river three times during the journey, tunnelled through tunnels under the railway line. At the foot of the mountains you will be able to admire the beautiful scenery and the splendour of Arlandsfjord.
