The National Aviation Museum was inaugurated by Norwegian King Harald V in 1994. It is located on the main road of the town of Budø and has the original shape of a huge 10,000 square metre propeller.

The museum consists of two exhibition halls, which contain exhibits of civil and military aviation, as well as reproductions of blueprints of aircraft belonging to Leonardo da Vinci himself.

Climbing up to the Dispatch Tower, you will be faced with a magnificent view of the of the city and the airport. The main task of the museum is to carry out research work to preserve and pass on historical knowledge about Norwegian aviation.

Many famous aircraft models are on display at the museum. Moreover, visitors have the opportunity to hear a story about the history of Civil aviation, which begins in the early 20th century. The first attempt to transport mail by air by air was made in Norway, and passenger flights were opened in 1935. The military exposition is devoted to the history of the Norwegian Air Force, World War II and the post-war period, as well as the modern air defence system.

The National Aviation Museum has a unique simulator, as well as the café "Gidsken Café, named after the first female pilot.
