One of Norway's unique historical sights is the Skibladner, a steamship built in 1854. It was named after in honour of the ship that, according to myth, belonged to the god Freyr.
The Skibladner is the world's oldest passenger paddle steamer despite its age is still running. During the summer, it takes tourists around Lake Mjösa. The Skibladner was first launched on 2 August 1856. In 1888. the steamer was reconstructed: the hull was lengthened and a new steam engine was installed. The ship sank twice in its history, but each time after it was raised to the surface it had to be thoroughly reconstructed.
On 14 July 2005 (for the first time in Norway) the steamship was given the status of a moving historical monument.
