The Church of St. Cross, located near the city walls, has some features of defence architecture. The beginning of its construction dates back to 1300, but the main volume appeared later. The church, built in the tradition of halls with a single nave, is preceded by a square bell tower with an island spire. The roof is covered with tiles. The restrained exterior of the church contrasts with the rich decoration of the interior. From the central, round pillar the stone ribs of the nervures fan out. Originally built as a hospital church, from the end of the 19th century the church became the parish church of Kraków actors and theatregoers.
