St. Barbara's Church, founded in 1362 by MikoĊaj Wierzynek, was made of bricks, left over from the construction of the Mariatic Cathedral. Its purpose was cemetery chapel, in the second half of the 16th century it became the first residence of the Jesuits in Kraków.
At the wall of the church, under the open openwork arcade, is a large sculptural Gethsemane group, depicting Jesus Christ praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Apostles falling asleep. Some researchers attribute it to Vitus Stvos, others to his disciples.
