On Świętojańska Street is the oldest church in Warsaw - St. John's Cathedral, built at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. In 1339, a papal court settled a dispute here. between Poland and the Teutonic Order. Here were crowned Stanisław Leszczynski and Stanislaw August Poniatowski. Beneath the floor of the church lie the ashes of Mazovian princes, and noble citizens of Mazovia. Polish writer Henryk Sienkiewicz is also buried here. The temple didn't survived, but was restored in 1963.
