The Maritime Museum was opened in 1962 in the western wing of the Jeronimus Monastery in Belene. It features many models of boats, fishing boats, sailing ships and caravels, as well as various navigational instruments, astrolabes, nautical charts and stone crosses that were placed by the Portuguese in the lands they discovered. Models of modern Portuguese ships are also on display.
