Above Foros, two kilometres from the Baidar Gate, on a steep cliff 400 m above sea level rises the Church of the Ascension of Christ, built in 1892. The cathedral is built in Byzantine style with a special technique of masonry wide flat brick and a system of internal supports, but with the use of numerous domes on the type of Russian wooden temples, so Foros church resembles the Moscow churches of the late 18th century.
In total, the church has undergone three restorations, all three attempts to restore the temple experts call unsuccessful. The fourth restoration was in 2004. The picturesque decoration inside the church was recreated, the paintings preserved outside were restored, and the mosaic on the facade was created.
