Sapun Mountain is a natural mountain barrier on the approaches to the city. It became the scene of fierce battles during the heroic defence of Sevastopol in 1941-1942 and during its liberation in 1944, As well as during its liberation in 1944. At the top of Sapun Hill is a memorial complex in memory of the soldiers who liberated Sevastopol during the Great Patriotic War. 

Heroic events of those days resurrects diorama "The storming of Sapun Hill on 7 May 1944". Artists depicted one of the episodes of the battle for the liberation of Sevastopol from the Nazis. fascists. The diorama is located in the semicircular building of the museum, on the first floor. On the site samples of Soviet military equipment of the war: tanks, cannons, self-propelled guns, mines. On the mountainside - a monument to the soldiers of the 77th Division, who died here during the storming of enemy fortifications. In the park is the Obelisk of Glory, built in 1944. On the steles are carved the names of the army and navy units that participated in the liberation of the city.
