The church, which has the name Vvedenskaya and is located in Feodosia, is the oldest architectural monument of the city. It is very famous and popular among the guests of the city and the local population. According to historical and archaeological materials, the Greek church was erected from the seventh to the ninth centuries.
The temple consists of several structures that were built at different times. The oldest is its Byzantine part. It represents a small church of the hall type. The lower part of the bell tower itself consists of four pillars, which are covered with a very beautiful dome on sails, and belongs to the constructions of a later period. This part of the building was the entrance portico. In 1829 a three-nave part of the building was erected, which connected the bell tower with the ancient part of the church. This structure exists nowadays. In the same year the gaps that were between the pillars of the entrance portico were laid. A tier was built above the portico to house the bells. In the ancient part of the church, in the box vault, a light drum with marquees was arranged. The interior of the church was decorated with frescoes and beautiful fine work - stone carving.
Previously, the Vvedenskaya Church was run by the Greek community of Theodosia. According to old residents, the service in this church was conducted in two languages: Greek and Russian. In the courtyard of the church there was a school, and accommodation for the priest.
The church stopped working in the 30s of the twentieth century. It was closed, like many other temples. The large dome along with the bell tower were demolished. In the last ten years the church was used not for its intended purpose. The rich decoration of the temple was irretrievably lost. The premises were used as a gymnasium. In 1993 the dome was put back on the church and it was restored. Currently, the Vvedenskaya Church is an active church.
