The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is one of Cape Town's most popular attractions. The entire Victorian harbour area was completely restored in the early 1990s. Today it is a vibrant area with many restaurants, bars, shops and entertainment centres. Historic buildings stand shoulder to shoulder along the waterfront walkway with modern shopping centres, museums and cinemas in the same style.
Despite the large influx of tourists, the harbour continues to operate, thus adding even more appeal and charm to the area. It is also possible to take a fascinating two-hour harbour cruise on a small Victoria Wharf schooner or Camps Bay sailboat.
The variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues on the V&A Waterfront is unrivalled. The likes of Victoria Wharf featuring Gucci, Jimmy Choo and Burberry attracts 10 million visitors a year.
Visitors to Two oceans aquarium will be treated to a fascinating tour of the museum dedicated to the history of shipping from prehistoric times to the present day. Boat trips around the harbour and along the coast are always popular with holidaymakers. You can take a ride on the Ferris wheel. The information centre can provide maps and times of special events planned for the day.
A ferry to Robben Island leaves daily from the pier next to the exhibition and information centre, near the Clock Tower. The island tour and bus tour includes a visit to the prison with views of the limestone quarry, the Garrison Church (1841), the lighthouse (1863), the Leper's Church (1895) and the island's resident birds such as penguins, ostriches, ibis and others.
Located between Robben Island and Table Mountain in the centre of Cape Town's working harbour, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront has become South Africa's most visited destination. Magnificent sea and mountains, exciting shopping and entertainment centres mixed with working business offices, world-class hotels and luxury flats with marinas.
