The Barcelona Aquarium was opened in 1995 in the harbour area. It is now the largest aquarium in Europe, with 20 themed pools containing representatives of the flora and fauna of the Mediterranean Sea, as well as other oceanic and marine waters. The scale of the Barcelona Aquarium is really amazing - there are up to 11 thousand sea creatures, which are contained in 6 million litres of sea water. Of course, such a variety of marine life cannot fail to attract visitors from all corners of the globe.

The most interesting and unique place of the Barcelona Aquarium can rightfully be considered a huge oceanarium, which is a huge tank filled with 4.5 million litres of water, through which leads 80-metre glass tunnel. Thus, walking along this tunnel, you seem to be travelling along the bottom of the ocean, and right above you and around you swim real tiger sharks, rays, a variety of marine and oceanic fish, which you can view very closely. It is truly mesmerising.

As already mentioned, the aquarium is divided into thematic pools, which contain representatives of northern, tropical seas, deep waters, coral forests, etc. Thus, it is easier to create for all creatures the conditions that are as similar as possible to their natural habitat.

The exhibition presented by the inhabitants of the Mediterranean Sea is the largest. Here you can see colourful moray eels, octopuses, sharks, seahorses, flat fish. The Tropical Aquarium contains representatives from the Red Sea, the Caribbean, the Australian waters of the Great Barrier Reef and even Hawaii. Of particular interest is the Aqua Planet exhibition, where you will get to know creatures that have adapted to life in extreme marine conditions, such as Arctic waters, deep trenches, etc.

In addition, there are children's attractions, educational exhibitions and special programmes such as shark diving, etc.
