According to legend, the Christian martyrs Felix, Regula and Exuperantis were buried on the site of the present Grossmünster Cathedral. Christian martyrs Felix, Regula and Exuperantis. Their burial place was found Emperor Charlemagne and ordered a church to be built there. The construction of the present temple began in 1090, but continued until the XVIII century. Therefore, in the architecture of the temple there are many elements of different styles.

During the Reformation, the cathedral became the parish church of Ulrich Zwingli. Here he preached his beliefs against the teachings of the Catholic Church. The interior of the church is in keeping with Zwingli's idea that nothing in the church should distract the congregation from their prayers. Frescoes of the XV-XVI centuries have been preserved in the choirs. In the crypt one can see poorly preserved paintings with images of Christian martyrs and a statue Charlemagne of the century.
