The town of Chanthaburi is 120 kilometres from Pattaya. It has a gemstone quarter where gems from Thailand, Laos and Myanmar are traded. The city has Thailand's largest Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, built by the French in the late 19th century.
The largest dolphinarium in Thailand is located 15 kilometres from Chanthaburi. The show features performances by dolphins and other marine mammals.
Twenty kilometres from the city is Wat Khao Sukim. It is a monastery where meditation techniques are taught. It also has a Gift Museum, a four-storey building filled with statues, furniture, crockery, wax figures, etc. In the monastery's dining room, every visitor can eat a plate of rice and pour themselves a cup of coffee or tea for free.
