One of Thailand's largest pearl farms is located northeast of Phuket on Nagannoy Island. Established in 1964, it supplies pearl jewellery both nationally and internationally. Especially valuable is the fact that the pearls are grown here in sea water, so their quality is much higher than those produced in rivers.
To date, about 100,000 pearl oysters have been reared at Nakha Farm, producing pearls. The entire process of pearl production takes place over a long period of time with a huge amount of human labour. If you wish, you can observe all the stages of production yourself.
It is worth noting that the formation of a pearl is a defence reaction of the oyster to a foreign body entering it. To achieve the desired result, the master slightly opens the oyster and puts a tiny fragment of coral into it. Then a huge garland of oysters is placed in the sea, where within 2-5 years the most beautiful pearls will be formed.
Pearls produced at Nakha Farm are prized for their excellent quality and variety. Different species of oysters are cultivated here, thus producing pearls of various shades - from cream and white to rare black. Incidentally, it is here that the largest pearl in an artificial habitat was grown - its diameter was 40 millimetres.
If you wish to purchase pearl jewellery, you can buy it at the jewellery shop on the Nakha farm.
