My Application

Lake Schott el Jerid is not a lake in the usual sense. Its surface is covered in a thick salt crust that could sustain a car. But in places beneath the crust is a boggy slurry that's dangerous for careless motorists. Nevertheless, in well-researched places on the smooth surface of the salt marshes there are high-speed races for sports cars. The record is 900 kilometres per hour.

The road to Tozer runs across the lake. It's a fantastic view on both sides of the motorway through the endless, salt-glittering. space. At the invisible horizon line, the sky merges with the earth, giving the impression of travelling through a huge easterly expanse. giving the impression of travelling through a huge ellipsoidal tunnel, illuminated by a dim light, changing from ashy grey below to a bluish colour at the top. Visibility here can drop to between 50 and 60 metres.

Kebili is often referred to as the land of Fata Morgana. When the temperature rises above 30 degrees, mirages begin to appear on the surface of the lake. True, the air has to be clean enough. Small grains of sand, picked up by the wind, can interfere with this amazing spectacle.
