Ancient Tunisia has a very rich history, which is confirmed by the numerous architectural monuments located on the territory of this state. One of the popular sights is considered to be the Mausoleum of Princess Aziza.
According to legends, one of the beys - Othman - had a daughter named Fatima. The young princess was a very pious and merciful girl and therefore among the people she was called Aziza, which means "dear" or "favourite" in Arabic. Princess Fatima died in 1963 and her subjects decided to thank her for all the good deeds she had done for them by burying her with special honours in a mausoleum built especially for her and her ancestors. In the mausoleum building there are several burials of representatives of Bey Othman's famous family. The rooms of the mausoleum contain a large number of ancient relics, as well as many other items of historical significance.
Despite the fact that the tomb is located on private property, you will most likely be able to visit it by talking to the owners. This structure will certainly be of interest to those who seek to learn more about the history and architecture of Tunisia, to see the bright and colourful mosaics and wall paintings inside the mausoleum.
