The agora (market square) in the Namazgah neighbourhood was built under Alexander the Great. However, what has survived are reconstructed buildings from the time of Marcus Aurelius, which survived the devastating earthquake of 178 AD. In the 1920s and 1940s, archaeological excavations took place here, during which Corinthian columns and capitals, the remains of three gates, many fragments of statues of Neptune and Diana, and hundreds of Ottoman grave stones were found. All of these can be seen here today.
