The Mindos Gate, part of the city's fortifications, served as the western entrance to the city. It was named after Mindos, the ancient city towards which it faced.

In ancient times, the gate had three towers, in front of them there was a protective moat 15 metres wide and 8 metres deep. They were attacked by Alexander the Great when he decided to capture the city. The defenders of the city desperately resisted, but without success: the city was taken and destroyed to the ground by order of Alexander the Great. Only the Mausoleum was spared.

The ruins of the side parts of the gate were preserved. Near them were found Greek and Roman burials. Restoration work is currently being carried out here.
