The monument to the conqueror of the city of Alanya - Sultan Alladin Keykubat I is located in the western part of the city and is the very first monument that greets the tourists arriving from the airport.
Aladdin was a Seljuk sultan who ruled Alania in the 13th century (1219-1236). He competed for power with his older brother Keikavus I, who became sultan in 1211, but was defeated by him and imprisoned in the castle of Guzer Pirt, near Malatya. After his brother's death, Keykubat was freed by the Emirs and he was enthroned.
From the first years of his reign, Sultan Alladin Keykubat I showed himself as a successful military commander and a far-sighted ruler. During the Mongol conquest Central Asia, he prudently fortified Konya, Sivas and Kayseri, surrounding them with new towers and walls. In 1221, the Sultan recaptured the Mediterranean coastal fortress of Kalonoros. Kalonoros fortress on the Mediterranean coast belonging to the Armenian kingdom of Cilicia. И here, by order of the Sultan, the length of the defences already in place there was increased of the defences already there and the harbour was rebuilt.
After five years of battles, the Seljuk sultan Alladin Keykubat I captured Alania in 1221 and ordered the erection of a monument that would symbolise of the Turks' dominance on the seas, as well as securely protecting the city's bay. Thus Keikubat left a significant mark on the history of the city by completing the construction of the castle of of Alanya and built a powerful and colourful fortress on a high hill, called Kizil Kule (Red Tower) in 1224.
The sculptor depicted Keykubat on his horse, giving Seljuk troops orders to attack the hostile Seljuk troops to attack the enemy. It was the sculpture of Aladdin Keykubat I allowed Alania to be recognised as one of the monuments of medieval architecture. The buildings of the Keikubat period are fundamental and majestic.
The monument immortalising the most important "master" of the city of Alanya is located not in the central town square, as it happens in most cases, but at the entrance to the city on the "boss side", i.e. practically on the western outskirts of the city towards Antalya, the administrative district centre of the whole region, which now includes Alanya. So it turns out that every time one of the district leaders of the district leadership wishes to visit the subordinate town, the glorious sultan greets him at the entrance. It's not exactly on the main road, but not far from it.
