Marmaris is located at the junction of the Aegean and Mediterranean seas on the south-west coast of Turkey. This pearl of the Aegean coast has long attracted the attention of ancient peoples - the Carians and Lydians. The foundation of the city dates back to the sixth century BC.

In the vicinity of modern Marmaris in the sixteenth century lived Sariana, or as she was called, the White-skinned Mother, a wise righteous woman who became famous for her prophecies.

Sariana's tomb in Marmaris recalls the distant days of the sixteenth century and the battles of the Turkish Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent with enemies from the island of Rhodes. As the legend says, the prophecies of the wise Sariana helped the sultan to win victories.

Sultan Suleiman I, before going to Rhodes with a military campaign, turned to Sariana to find out the outcome of the upcoming battle for the island. When the sultan received a favourable answer, he gave orders to lay siege to Rhodes. According to historians, during the siege of the island hungry soldiers of the sultan's troops delivered for breakfast a large number of jugs of milk, which gave no less famous cow fortune teller. Sariana's prophecies came true and the Crusaders were pushed back to Malta.

Sariana's tomb is located in the north-east of Marmaris, on the town hill behind the newly built mosque. It is built in the Ottoman style in memory of the famous fortune teller.
