Tashkhan is an ancient inn for travellers, located about ten kilometres from the city centre and dating back to the 16th century. The Tashkhan or "Stone Inn" and the Aqueduct are considered to be among the main historical landmarks of Marmaris. Both structures were built in 1522. This traditional caravanserai welcomed traders, travellers and conquerors who passed through the region.
Nowadays there is little reminder of those distant times when traders used to shelter here from robber raids. The caravanserai symbolises the hospitality of Marmaris. There are various cultural events for tourists, colourful music and dance shows, small cafes and shops selling souvenirs that will be a wonderful reminder of a visit to Marmaris.
The upper part of the inn is surrounded by elegant arches and is located on a narrow street leading to the castle. Erected in the Merzifon district in a typical Ottoman architectural style and rectangular in plan, the caravanserai consists of one large and seven small rooms. It is a great place for tourists to visit.
