The Maritime Museum, located in Sharjah's Khan neighbourhood, is one of the Emirate's popular attractions. The opening of the museum took place quite recently - in 2009. Sheikh Al Qasimi, the Ruler of the Emirate, initiated the establishment of the museum. The main purpose of the Maritime Museum is to preserve materials and material evidence of Sharjah's rich maritime heritage and to educate the public. The sea played a major role in the life of the local population and the Emirates grew and developed rapidly. The locals fished for fish, seafood and, of course, pearls.

The Maritime Museum, although not large, is very interesting, especially for those who love shipbuilding and seafaring. The museum has only recently opened, so it is not surprising that it has been decorated with the latest technological advances, such as interactive displays that can be used to watch fascinating videos.

The Sharjah Maritime Museum displays traditional seaworthy dhow boats made of wood. They were used for fishing, pearling and trading. There is also an opportunity to see real Arabian pearls and learn exactly how they were harvested, weighed and measured. By visiting the museum, guests have the opportunity to learn about all the local fishing traditions. The museum features powerful wooden hoisting blocks used for raising and lowering sails.

Particular attention of visitors is attracted by photographs and portraits of famous captains and navigators, as well as recordings of sailors' performances and old sea songs, which can be seen and heard in the museum.

Tour guides working in the maritime museum will tell a lot of interesting things not only about the history of shipbuilding and navigation, but also about marine fauna and flora. In the near future, a huge marine park is planned to be built around the museum, which will include an aquarium and restored fishing buildings.
