The Historical Museum is a collection of exhibits that best reflect Vietnam's history spanning several millennia. Its beautiful building is located near the Botanical Gardens and the Puppet Theatre.

This museum, the oldest in the city, was opened in 1929 and has since become one of the most famous museums in the state. A separate and very large section of the museum is dedicated to the history of Vietnam from ancient times to the first Indochina War.

Unique archaeological exhibits represent all periods - from primitive and the era of the founding of the first royal dynasties to the last imperial Nguyen family, whose representatives ruled during the French colonisation. The exhibition contains many household items of the inhabitants and religious objects. Among them is a very old sculpture of Buddha. It is considered a rare unique exhibit and a real jewel of the museum's collection. And the beauty of the collection of ancient ceramics can be appreciated not only by connoisseurs of pottery. In the exposition of the museum there is a section of mummies of the XIX century, which attracts mainly fans of everything mysterious and unusual.

The second section of the museum introduces South Vietnam and life in the Mekong Delta. This section is dedicated not only to Vietnam, but also to the neighbouring countries, historically, culturally, and often territorially connected with each other in different periods of development.

Periodically, the territory of the museum becomes a site for temporary exhibitions of historical themes. Next to these open-air exhibitions are performances of puppet theatre on the water. Both of them are a constant success with spectators of all ages.
