Kafue National Park lies 200 kilometres west of Lusaka. It is a fairly extensive park, the largest in Zambia, with hundreds of square kilometres of forest, shoals and sandbanks of the Kafue River. The park is considered the main safari area, with numerous lions, leopards, elephants, antelope and zebras, the ultra rare yellow duiker (South African antelope) is even found here. This huge area (750 square kilometres) floods from March to May, at which point the park becomes a giant swamp, a breeding ground for thousands and thousands of hippos and millions of birds.
