One of Zimbabwe's largest nature reserves is Mana Pools, the third largest after Gonarezhou and Hwange, covering an area of about 220 000 hectares along the Zambezi River. It is home to a variety of wildlife such as elephants, kanna, zebra, gnu, buffalo, kudu and other species; the park is also known for the diversity and beauty of its birdlife, including the lesser flamingo, malachite kingfisher and purple titmouse. Located 390 kilometres from Harare, the park is accessible by any car during the dry season and by four-wheel drive vehicle during the rainy summer months.
