The National Archives, which houses Zimbabwe's history, is located 6 kilometres from central Harare on the Borrowdale Road. The organisation, tasked with a huge variety of diverse functions, is the repository of the national heritage in the form of documents. The archives collection includes records of central government, local government and parastatals, as well as records of other organisations and individuals who have contributed to the history and development of the country; it also houses the National Reference Library, which includes a comprehensive collection of material ever published in Zimbabwe and beyond; art illustrations, audio, video material and a collection of geographical maps, as well as coins, medals and postage stamps.
Viewing the National Archives collections is free of charge for both general visitors and researchers who are doing more in-depth analyses.
