The main museum building in the western region (Matabeleland) includes a comprehensive library and numerous galleries. The museum features internationally renowned collections on the subjects of entomology (the science of insects), geology, herpetology (the study of reptile and amphibian life), ichthyology (the science of fish), ornithology (birds), and palaeontology (prehistoric life forms).
