There are several safari regions in the Zambezi River Valley below Kariba Dam, home to elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards and all types of antelope. Many are allowed to be hunted with proper authorisation from the Department of National Parks and Maintenance of Wildlife Populations. The hunting season is usually open from the beginning of May to the end of September and the Department can grant permits to approximately 200 hunters each year. Non-hunters are allowed to freely explore the reserve and photograph animals, fish in the Zambezi River or simply enjoy the superb views. Another region where safaris are allowed is Tuli, in south-western Zimbabwe. Up to four people can hunt here at the same time. Hunting permits are granted for up to 10 days and the season is open from 1 May to 30 September.
