The Zambezi River turns into a foaming and roaring, cliff-dropping cascade of water from one of the most magnificent waterfalls, which is literally a wall of water about 1,675 metres long and 107 metres high. When the Zambezi River is full, 7,500 cubic metres of water passes through Victoria Falls in one second. The volume of water is so great and it rushes down with such force that the cloud of spray rising into the air can be seen as far as 40 kilometres away. The local name of Victoria Falls is Mosi-oa-tunya, which translates to "Smoke that rattles". A rainbow often plays in the spray of this majestic waterfall, rising to heights of up to 300 metres
