Kok-Tobe

Köktöbe (Kazakh: Көктөбе, romanized: Köktöbe, lit. 'Bluehill'; Russian: Коктобе, romanized: Koktobe) or Koktyube (Russian: Коктюбе) is a hill in Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city and former capital. At 1,100 meters (3,610 feet) above sea level, it is one of the main landmarks of the city and a symbol of Almaty.

Palace of the Republic

Palace of the Republic is a concert hall building located in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It is intended for concerts, festivals and other cultural events. It was one of the premiere sites for the Eurasia Film Festival. Outside, with the fountains on the square in front of the Palace and the monument of the Kazakh poet Abai, Palace of the Republic is one of the main known attractions of Almaty from the Kunaev era. The building is located at the Abai Square in cross road section of Dostyq and Abai Avenue.

The 28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park (Kazakh: 28 гвардияшы-панфиловшылар атындағы саябақ, romanized: 28 gvardiaşı-panfilovşylar atyndağy saiabaq; Russian: Парк имени 28 гвардейцев-панфиловцев, romanized: Park imeni 28 gvardeytsev-panfilovtsev) is an urban park near the Ascension Cathedral in east-central Almaty, Kazakhstan. The park honors the Panfilov's Twenty-Eight Guardsmen, 28 soldiers from an Alma-Ata infantry unit of the Red Army who reportedly died during World War II in the Battle of Moscow. Named after Soviet General Ivan Panfilov, they are remembered for delaying the German advance into the Soviet capital of Moscow during Operation Barbarossa. An eternal flame commemorates the fallen soldiers, situated in front of a black monument honouring troops from all 15 Soviet republics.

Almaty

Almaty, formerly known as Alma-Ata (Russian: Алма-Ата), is the largest city in Kazakhstan, with a population of over two million. It was the capital of Kazakhstan from 1929 to 1936, while the country was an autonomous republic of the Soviet Union, then from 1936 to 1991, a union republic and finally from 1991, an independent state. In 1997, the government relocated the capital to Akmola (now called Astana).
