National Mall

The National Mall is a landscaped park near the downtown area of Washington, D., the capital city of the United States. It contains and borders a number of museums of the Smithsonian Institution, art galleries, cultural institutions, and various memorials, sculptures, and statues. It is administered by the National Park Service (NPS) of the United States Department of the Interior as part of the National Mall and Memorial Parks unit of the National Park System. The Washington Monument is an obelisk on the National Mall in Washington, D., built to commemorate George Washington, a Founding Father of the United States, victorious commander-in-chief of the Continental Army from 1775 to 1783 in the American Revolutionary War, and the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1797. The National Gallery of Art is an art museum in Washington, D., United States, located on the National Mall, between 3rd and 9th Streets, at Constitution Avenue NW.
