Kuressaare Town Hall was erected between 1654 and 1670. The building was built on the initiative of the Swedish count Magnus Gabriel de la Guardia of Sweden. The town hall is in the Baroque style of the Nordic countries, which is characterised by simple and austere forms, but at the same time it gives the impression of majestic and monolithic. The decoration of the Town Hall is a sculptural portal with the date "1670". The largest ceiling painting in Estonia is located here and decorates the second floor of the town hall.
The building is permeated with the spirit of the Middle Ages, which has been preserved through restorations. which has been preserved through restorations. The building was restored to its original form in the 1970s.
Today, the town hall houses a gallery and a tourist office. You can have a bite to eat and soak up the atmosphere of the medieval times in the restaurant in the basement of the town hall.
