In 1759 in the village of Vyarska there was a small wooden church built by the Pechora Monastery in honour of the Great Martyr George (Yuri). Later, after the erection of a stone church in 1907, the wooden church was destroyed. The new church of Vyarska was built during 3 years, from 1904 to 1907. The Apostolic Orthodox Church of St. Yuri was erected with money from local residents.
In 1926, the St George's bell for the stone church was cast at the Tegur factory in Tartu. Nowadays another bell rings over the church, while the St George bell has been removed and is in the church itself. The church will be interesting for its interior, inside there are many different icons, among them the icon of St George from the 17th century.
Opposite the church there is a holy spring where people go to "baptise water". Next to the Orthodox church there is a cemetery. Here rests Anne Vabarna (1877-1964), who wrote about 150,000 poems - the largest bearer of the spiritual culture of the Seti, as well as the "Chud's chanter" - the poet Paul Haavaoks. There is another cemetery, which is north of the church, about half a kilometre away, and the first parish priests of Värsk are buried there. This cemetery has special grave stones carved in the shape of crosses. Such crosses are not found anywhere else in Estonia.
