Opened in 1973, Singapore Zoo is one of the country's most attractive attractions. A variety of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects can be found here. The zoo staff aims to create the most natural conditions suitable not only for living but also for breeding. This zoo is one of the few in the world that has recreated natural ecosystems for captive animals, from deserts to tropical jungles. There are no artificial fences or cages. The barriers are water channels and ditches. The Singapore Zoo has more than 2.5 thousand animals, a third of which are on the verge of extinction. Among them are orangutans, manatees, white rhino and many others.
Locals recommend that visitors to the city spend a whole day touring the zoo to get the full enjoyment of communicating with wildlife. The zoo hosts various entertainment events in which the animals themselves take part: Indian elephants, chimpanzees, sea lions, huge turtles. Those who wish to get acquainted with the wild world can take part in feeding any animal they like. For nightlife lovers, the zoo staff organises "Night Safari", which is a tour of the park at night. From the window of an electric bus visitors can observe the animals leading a nocturnal lifestyle, listen to a short story of the guide about the features of these fauna.
Despite the fact that the zoo occupies a considerable area - about 28 hectares, it is impossible to get lost here, because everywhere there are signs in English.
