Singapore, recognized officially as the Republic of Singapore, is a an island country and a city-state situated within maritime Southeast Asia. Positioned just over a single degree of latitude (equaling 137 kilometers or 85 miles) to the north of the equator, it resides off the southern coast of the Malay Peninsula.
