The Underwater World Oceanarium is Singapore's oldest and most popular oceanarium. This main attraction of the Sentosa Island Entertainment Complex showcases the underwater life of all the seas and oceans of our planet. Its aquariums are home to more than three thousand specimens of marine life, including some fossilised species no longer preserved anywhere else.
The Oceanarium was established in the early nineties of the last century. A 2010 renovation has allowed it to maintain its leading position in Asia.
Most of the aquariums are located underground along a transparent acrylic circular tunnel over 80 metres long. While on the moving walkway, visitors feel part of an underwater world, with colourful corals and algae, small reef fish and huge sharks. At certain hours, divers can be seen feeding the many representatives of the world's oceans.
For those wishing to get to know the marine animals better, there are outdoor pools. The touch pool, where you can touch different sea creatures with your hands, is designed especially for children. Fans of extreme sports can feed the sharks. For the curious there are exhibitions of historical exhibits and stands telling about biology, anatomy and ecology of the inhabitants of water depths.
Both children and parents are pleased with the "Lagoon of dolphins". There you can watch performances of sea lions and unusual pink dolphins. If you want, you can even swim with them.
A comfortable environment has been created for all the inhabitants of the oceanarium, which allows a variety of species to live and breed - from sea eagles and skates to rare species of sharks. The Oceanarium is a regular participant in environmental and educational projects, as well as a member of conservation programmes.
The total number of visitors to the Oceanarium since its opening has long exceeded 30 million people.
