The so-called Livingstone House is located just north of Stone Town on the Bububu Road. Built in 1860, the house served as a haven for many European missionaries and explorers. Livingstone stayed here before setting out on his last expedition. The building was later taken over by the Hindu Society. In 1947, the government bought and reconstructed the building to house laboratories for scientific research. The building now houses the offices of the Zanzibar Tourism Corporation.
