St Jura Cathedral, located on the square of the same name, is one of the pearls of Lviv late Baroque architecture. It is the main shrine of the Greek Catholic Church. The construction of the cathedral, designed by Bernard Meretin, lasted from 1744 to 1764. The construction was completed by Sebastian Fesinger.

The cathedral is located on a hill, which allows you to see its golden dome from many corners of the Lviv suburbs. The architectural ensemble includes the Metropolitan's Metropolitan's chambers, the bell tower, the chapter houses surrounding the cathedral on three sides, and the gates, decorated with sculptures of saints.

The cathedral itself is accessed by a staircase decorated with balustrade and sculptures, and numerous lanterns. The main façade features statues of St Athanasius and St Leo by sculptor I. Penzel. At the top, on the attic, there is a sculptural group of the same author sculptural group by the same author - "Yuri the Serpent-Bearer".

The interior decoration of the temple attracts with its opulence and beauty. Royal and deacon's gates in the altar part were made by S. Fessinger in 1768. In the temple There are two miracle-working icons - the icon of the Virgin of Terebovel of the 17th century and the icon of the Kiev-Pechersk Goddess. and the icon of the Mother of God of Kiev-Pechersk of the 17th century.

In the cathedral there are crypts-vaults, where the outstanding figures of the Ukrainian Church are buried: Cardinal Silsil Silchenko, the head of the Ukrainian Church. of the Ukrainian Church: Cardinal Sylvester Sembratovich, Metropolitans Andriy Sheptytsky, Volodymyr Sternyuk, UGCC cardinals Joseph Blind, Miroslav-Ivan Lubachivsky. The remains of Prince Yaroslav Osmomysl of Galicia, who lived in the 12th century, are also buried in the tomb. in the 12th century.

In the 1990s the cathedral was returned to the faithful and since then the temple has been under restoration. restoration. In 2001, during his visit to Ukraine, Pope John Paul II lived in the Metropolitan Palace of the Cathedral of St Jura.
