The House with Chimeras was built by architect Gorodetsky in 1903 on the former bank of the drained Goat Swamp. Many people at the time thought it was crazy to start construction on a cliff - therefore the house was initially shrouded in legends: it is said that Gorodetsky undertook the building on a bet with other architects, who said it was impossible to build on such a cliff.
Based on drawings by Gorodetsky, Italian sculptor Elio Salia decorated the facade and interiors with bizarre sculptures - sea monsters and exotic animals. animals. There's a legend that the sea monsters on the facade are the architect's tribute to his daughter who drowned at sea.
In 2003-2004, the House with Chimeras was restored: the interior of the building was completely restored. interior of the building, including parquet flooring and paintings. After the restoration, the House with House with Chimeras" became the Small Reception Residence of the President of Ukraine.
On the basis of Gorodetsky's house a museum and cultural centre "Masterpieces of Art Masterpieces of Art of Ukraine" as a branch of the National Museum. The exposition of the centre presents works of fine art, sculptures, items of decorative and applied arts from the collections of the leading museums of Ukraine.
